Model United Nations (MUN) Conference

Although most of our participants were high school students, over 30 middle school students participated for the first time since before the pandemic. When we arrived at Langley High School, we were told that we brought more students than any other school. Keep in mind that this includes the large public schools in the Northern Virginia area!

Our students participated in general assemblies, specialized committees, and crisis committees – some in double delegations and some in single delegations.

Because the KAA MUN club has been relatively dormant since 2020, our students are having to redevelop their diplomatic skills. In the last two MUN conferences, we only had one student winner. Freshman Shaden Alyami won a verbal commendation at the Edison High School MUN Conference. We did not win anything at the Chantilly High School MUN Conference.

We were in for a surprise at Langley High School. Sophomore Rumaysa Hossain won “Outstanding Delegate” and Sophomore Tim Hakim won a verbal commendation.

At the end of the award ceremony, KAA was recognized with the final award: the Scott Stone Diplomacy Award, given to the school whose students best portrayed diplomacy in action! KAA MUN Secretary General Jood Alfadhel and Under Secretary General Rumaysa Hossain accepted this prestigious award on behalf of KAA, and it is now on display at KAA by the office.

Although it takes a lot of research and hard work to prepare for an MUN Conference and to then argue international politics successfully with students from other high schools, our students have proven that they can compete against and win against the large public schools!

Our students are winners!
